The Hawaiian guy was Duke Kahanamoku, legendary surfer from the early part of the 20th Century. He won five Olympic medals in swimming, and was a record holder in the 200 meter freestyle. In 1925 he saved eight capsized fishermen from drowning in California. He is credited with spreading the sport of surfing throughout the world. What an example of how to live a life!

I used to listen to this album over and over again when I was young (1990's ) I was a teenager then and felt that " this is the sea"was about the future, ie the next move in life I was going to take...... I am in to surfing BUT I think this song is about something alittle bit deeper than waves!!!
